交通の要衝に位置したシヨン城は要塞や税関として、また後には王侯貴族の
居城として発展してきた。そのため山側は要塞、湖側は邸宅の佇まいを持つ。
People lived on the rock where the castle stands even before the Roman era.
The castle was originally built to monitor the traffic on the main road connecting
the north and the south over the Alps, then developped as a castle. Today,
visitors can see a combination of fortress & castle at Chateau de Chillon.
