The first bridge was built in 1734. A suspension bridge, which was built
in
8 months, has only lasted for 6 years. In 1751, work started to build
the new bridge (Puente Nuevo). This time the bridge was founded from
the bottom of the gorge. The new bridge was completed in 1793.
