Viewing Cherry Blossoms |
The cherry trees blossom from the end of march to the beginning of May, depending on the locale. During the cherry blossom season, people have cherry blossom viewing parties Ohanami. While appreciating the flowers, people eat, drink and sing under the beautiful blossoms. This is the typical opportunity to get together with colleagues, neighbors, and friends.

Tanabata festival in July |
On Tanabata, legend has it that the Weaver Princess and her friend, Hikoboshi(the constellations Vega and Altair), meet once a year. In celebration, wishes are written on strip of paper and hung from bamboo branches. Sendai city and Hiratsuka city are famous for Tanabata festival.
